UPDATE: Porto has had an unfortunate medical setback and has been diagnosed with Lymes Disease. He is undergoing extensive medical care and is not currently available for adoption until he has fully recovered.

A random phone call from a complete stranger brought this lovely boy to Sleeping Fox Farm Thoroughbred Rescue (SFFTR). Well-meaning first time owners had made the decision to get their daughter a horse. They rescued a big, bay gelding from the local racetrack. Porto had earned over $25,000 in 27 starts at Charles Town Racetrack which ultimately left him with a fractured knee. He was scheduled to be euthanized when the family rescued him. They brought the gentle giant home and having no prior horse experience, quickly realized that they were in over their heads. They made the difficult decision to reach out SFFTR and surrender him. We are so thankful that they chose rescue/surrender over sending him to auction. Angie and Gary answered the request for help and took in the gangly gelding. We arrived to find a big, goofy gelding wearing only one horseshoe. He was lame and underweight but we saw him for the diamond in the rough that he was.
